What Happens in an Online RTT Session?
A clear, step-by-step explanation of what happens in Julie Cochrane's online RTT sessions, from the opening conversation to the personalised recording.
Written by Julie Cochrane · RTT Therapist and Clinical Hypnotherapist
The short answer
An online RTT session starts with a conversation about what is happening and what you want to change. Julie then guides you into a relaxed, focused state to explore the pattern and its meaning. The session ends with a personalised recording for you to listen to for 21 days.
1. You start with a conversation
Before anything guided begins, you and Julie talk about the issue you want to work on, how it shows up now and what would be different if it changed. You do not need a perfect explanation or a neatly labelled problem.
This is also where you can ask questions, describe what you are comfortable with and decide whether continuing feels right. The session is collaborative; you are not being tested and you can speak up at any point.
2. Julie guides you into focused attention
Mayo Clinic describes hypnosis as increased relaxation and focused concentration guided by a professional. Most people remain aware during the process; hypnosis does not mean surrendering control.[1]
From home, Julie guides you by voice over Zoom. You may close your eyes, settle your body and follow her prompts. You can respond, ask for a pause or come out of the exercise whenever you need to.
3. You explore the pattern, then leave with a recording
Julie’s RTT process looks at earlier experiences and the conclusions attached to them, then works toward a more useful interpretation in the present. This is her therapeutic method; it is not a promise that every memory is literal, complete or required for change.
At the end, Julie makes a personalised audio recording for you to listen to for 21 days. It is intended to help you keep returning to the new direction after the live session rather than treating the appointment as a one-off conversation.

Questions people often ask
Will I be unconscious during RTT?
No. Hypnosis is a guided state of focused attention and relaxation. You can hear Julie, speak, move and choose to end the exercise.
Do I have to remember a specific childhood event?
No. You do not need a complete story or a single dramatic event. Julie will explain the process and work with what is relevant and appropriate for you.
How long does an RTT session take?
Julie’s sessions are generally around 90 minutes. The exact experience varies with the issue and the conversation at the start.
