Trauma Without the Big Trauma
You don't need a single shocking event to be carrying the effects of trauma. The patterns running your life today were often shaped by small, repeated moments you've long forgotten.
When people hear the word trauma, they usually picture something dramatic, an accident, a loss, an obvious crisis. But the truth is, most of what shapes us emotionally happens far more quietly than that.
It's the parent who was loving but distracted. The teacher who shamed you in front of the class. The home where you learned to be small so things stayed calm. The repeated, ordinary moments that taught your nervous system what to expect from the world.
This is sometimes called developmental or relational trauma and it leaves real, lasting imprints, even when you can't point to any single thing as the cause.
What this can look like as an adult
A vague sense that something is off
You've ticked all the boxes, career, relationship, health but underneath there's a low hum of anxiety, sadness or emptiness you can't quite explain.
Over-functioning in everything
You're the reliable one, the strong one, the one who holds it together. Resting feels unsafe. Slowing down feels like falling.
Difficulty trusting your own needs
You can read a room in seconds but struggle to name what you actually want. Your needs feel like an inconvenience.
Patterns that won't break
Same kind of partner. Same kind of job. Same kind of burnout. No amount of insight seems to change the outcome.
These are not character flaws. They are intelligent responses your nervous system designed when you were small, to keep you safe in the environment you were in.
RTT works directly with the subconscious layer where these patterns were laid down, gently revisiting the scenes that shaped them, releasing what's been carried and installing a new, truer story underneath.
You don't need a 'big enough' reason to be struggling. If it's affecting your life, it's worth working with.
