What is RTT Therapy?
RTT (Rapid Transformational Therapy) is a therapeutic approach developed by British therapist Marisa Peer that combines hypnotherapy, psychotherapy and cognitive behavioural therapy. It works by using a state of focused relaxation to access the subconscious mind: the part that holds the patterns and beliefs formed earlier in life.
Each session lasts around 90 minutes and includes a personalised audio recording you listen to for 21 days afterwards.
Why RTT Works at a Different Level
Most of the patterns people want to change: anxiety, self-doubt, perfectionism, people-pleasing, repeating cycles in relationships. These patterns weren't created by conscious choice. They were formed in moments of intense emotion, often in childhood, as the mind's best attempt to create safety. The subconscious learned: "this is how I stay safe, loved or in control."
The problem is that the subconscious doesn't update on its own. A belief formed at age seven can still be running your behaviour at thirty-five, even when you know it's not accurate. Talk therapy and CBT work with the conscious mind: they help you understand the pattern and manage it. That's genuinely useful. But some patterns don't respond to understanding alone because they weren't created by understanding.
RTT works at the level where the pattern actually lives. Using hypnosis, we access the subconscious directly: find where the belief was formed, understand why it made sense at the time and update it. When the meaning changes, the pattern that followed it often changes too.

What Happens in an RTT Session
Each session takes place via Zoom and runs around 90 minutes. Here's what that includes.
Intake conversation
We start by talking. I want to understand what you're working on, how it shows up in your daily life and what you've already tried. This shapes everything that follows.
Hypnosis induction
I guide you into a state of deep relaxation, similar to the feeling just before sleep. You remain completely aware throughout. You hear everything and you can speak or come out of the state at any point. Hypnosis isn't something that happens to you. It's a state you move into with guidance.
Root cause exploration
In this receptive state, we trace what you're experiencing now back to where it began. This often involves revisiting early memories, not to relive them but to see them with the understanding you have now and revise what they told you about yourself.
Transformation work
We build new beliefs to replace the ones that have been running the pattern. This isn't me planting ideas. It's collaborative. I'm helping you articulate what's actually true about you underneath the old story.
Your personalised recording
Before the session ends, I record a bespoke audio specific to you, your issue and what came up in your session. You listen to this once a day for 21 days. This is where the change becomes structural.
The 21-Day Recording
The session creates the shift. The recording consolidates it.
You listen to your personalised audio once a day for 21 days, usually at night when the mind is most receptive. This period matters because the subconscious learns through repetition, not insight alone. New neural pathways need reinforcement to become the default rather than the exception.
Most clients notice something shifting within the first week. Some feel different almost immediately. By day 21, the anxiety, the self-doubt, the compulsion often feels like something that used to be true.
Who RTT Is For
RTT tends to work well for people who have a pattern they understand intellectually but can't shift through effort or willpower alone. If you've read the books, tried the therapy, know what the problem is and still feel stuck at some deeper level. RTT is worth exploring.
It works across a wide range of issues: anxiety and high-functioning anxiety, imposter syndrome, self-doubt, perfectionism, people-pleasing, relationship patterns, grief, specific fears and phobias, addictions, low confidence, money blocks and more.
Who it works best for
- ›People ready to look at where a pattern began rather than just manage how it shows up
- ›Those who've tried other approaches and feel something isn't shifting at a deeper level
- ›People who can commit to listening to the recording for 21 days after the session
- ›Anyone open to exploring the subconscious roots of what they're experiencing
An honest note
RTT isn't a passive process. It works when you're genuinely ready to engage with it, not looking for something to happen to you but willing to work with what comes up.
It also isn't a replacement for psychiatric care or medication management. It works well alongside those things but it's not a substitute. I'm direct about this in discovery calls. If I don't think RTT is the right fit for what you're bringing, I'll say so.
Is RTT Evidence-Based?
RTT is newer than CBT and doesn't yet have the same volume of formal clinical research. Hypnotherapy itself has a growing body of evidence, particularly for anxiety, pain management and phobias. The component approaches RTT draws on (hypnotherapy, CBT, psychotherapy) are all well-established modalities with decades of research behind them.
What I can tell you as a therapist is that I see consistent results with clients who are genuinely engaged in the process. RTT was developed by Marisa Peer after more than three decades of clinical practice and draws on the same neuroplasticity principles that underpin most modern approaches to lasting behaviour change: that the brain can form new pathways and that repetition is what makes them stick.
I'm transparent about what RTT is and isn't. If you have specific questions about whether it's appropriate for your situation, bring them to the discovery call.
